Most people, like myself, are in their “homemade era”. We want to make our own bread, butter, and pasta, grow our own produce, buy the most organic meats and grains, and make sure everything we bring in our homes are non-toxic! So why can’t we do the same for cleaning products??
Homemade cleaning products are a smart, sustainable choice that will not only benefit your home and wallet, but will benefit your health as well! This alternative uses simple, natural ingredients that are insanely effective and of course…..non-toxic; plus you’ll already have most of these items in your pantry and fridge.
With that said, here are 9 homemade cleaning product recipes that are easy to make and safe to use!

1. Regular Dish Detergent:
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Castile Soap (ex. Dr. Bronner’s)
- 1 Tablespoon of Baking Soda (used for grease cutting)
- 1 Tablespoon of Washing Soda (optional, used for extra cleaning power)
- 10-15 drops of antibacterial essential oil such as lemon or tea tree
- 1 Cup of water
Directions:
Mix all ingredients in a glass soap dispenser (bottle), gently shake, and use it to wash your dishes!

2. Extra Strength Dish Detergent:
Ingredients:
- 1/2 Cup Castile Soap (ex. Dr. Bronner’s)
- 1/4 Cup of White Vinegar
- 1 Teaspoon of Lemon Juice
- 10 drops of antibacterial essential oil such as lemon or tea tree
- 1/2 Cup of warm distilled water
Directions:
Mix all ingredients in a glass soap dispenser (bottle), gently shake, and use it to wash your greasy dishes, pots and pans!

3. Powdered Dishwashing Detergent for Dishwashers:
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup of Baking Soda (used for grease cutting)
- 2 Cups of Washing Soda (used for extra cleaning power)
- 1 Cup of Citric Acid
- 1/2 Cup of salt
Directions:
Mix all ingredients and store in an airtight container. Use 1-2 tablespoons in the dishwasher per load. 🙂

4. Vinegar-Based All-Purpose Cleaner (Great for glass, counters, and general cleaning, but avoid on granite or marble.):
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup White Vinegar
- 10–15 drops essential oil (optional, like lemon, tea tree, or lavender for scent and antibacterial properties)
- 1 Cup of water
Directions:
Mix all ingredients in a glass spray bottle and shake before use. Spray on surfaces (except for granite and marble surfaces) and wipe clean with a cloth or paper towel!
5. Citrus-Infused Cleaner (with extra grease-cutting power)
Ingredients:
- Peels from 2–3 lemons, oranges, or limes
- 1 Cup White Vinegar
- 1 Cup water
Directions:
- Place citrus peels in a jar and cover with vinegar. Let sit for at least 1 week (longer for a stronger infusion).
- Strain the liquid and mix with an equal part of water in a glass spray bottle.
- Use as an all-purpose cleaner. (ex: wiping counters, mopping the floors, cleaning the bathroom)
6. Castile Soap Cleaner (Safe for stone surfaces, wood, and general cleaning.)
Ingredients:
- 1 Tablespoon Castile soap (ex. Dr. Bronner’s)
- 2 Cups of warm water
- 10 drops essential oil (optional)
Directions:
Mix ingredients in a glass spray bottle and shake gently. Use as needed!
7. Heavy-Duty Disinfectant Cleaner (For deep cleaning and killing germs.)
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup of Hydrogen Peroxide (3%)
- 1 Cup of water
- 20 drops tea tree oil or eucalyptus oil
Directions:
- Mix in a glass spray bottle.
- Spray and let sit for 5–10 minutes before wiping.
8. Gentle Wood Cleaner (For Everyday Cleaning)
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup of warm water
- 1 Teaspoon Castile soap (or mild dish soap)
- 10 drops lemon or orange essential oil (for shine and scent)
Directions:
- Mix ingredients in a glass spray bottle.
- Lightly spray onto a microfiber cloth (not directly on the wood).
- Wipe the surface, then dry with a clean cloth.
9. Wood Polish & Deep Cleaner (For Shine and Conditioning)
Ingredients:
- ½ Cup of olive oil (or fractionated coconut oil)
- ¼ Cup of White Vinegar
- 10 drops lemon essential oil (optional)
Directions:
- Shake ingredients in a glass spray bottle or jar and apply a small amount to a soft or microfiber cloth (like the Microfiber Cleaning Cloth Roll below!).
- Rub onto wood surface in circular motions.
- Buff with a dry cloth to remove excess and add shine!
