When trying to give your home a new look, the color scheme is one of the most important decisions to make. You might ask yourself “What color should I paint my living room walls?”, “What would be the best color scheme to go with?” or, “Which color is best for the entire house?”. Colors subconsciously affect how we feel, as it is said, that different colors can give off a different type of vibe……but the main vibe most of us try to achieve is the cozy moody vibe!
I always associate moody dark colors with a comfortable, warm cozy feeling; and if you need an idea of what cute, dark/moody colors to choose for your home, here’s a list of favorites you can choose from:
Red
I may just be speaking for myself, but I don’t see too many dark red colors in a home! This color palette is seen more often around the Christmas holiday, or in a Halloween setting, but I’d move this an everyday moody decor color for sure.
Green
When we think of green, we often think of nature and the state of being tranquil. Whether you decide to paint an accent wall green or cover your living room with plants, green will trigger relaxation and peacefulness. While this can trigger this, a dark or grayish green can also give you the “moodiness” you’re looking for!
Blue
Blue, the most popular color in the world for multiple reasons. This color can be used to make a room both feminine and masculine depending on how you ‘dress up’ the room, which may be the ideal color for a couple going for a gender-neutral look. Not only does blue represent self-expression, freedom and vitality, it promotes conscious communication, responsibility and order. Darker blues (like navy blue or grayish blue) can also give the moody look you’re going for, especially with the right decor!
Purple
People often opt for lavender colors to bring a graceful, serene feeling in their living space, but make it a dark purple and you’ll for sure change the mood. You may be surprised that this color, is often included in Victorian or Academia decor!
Brown
Since brown is a color of the earth, this may bring a natural yet solid feeling to your home. Brown represents stability and reliability, but for your living space it may also bring comfort and a natural warmth. Think of how a cabin (if you’ve been in one) makes you feel. The wood itself gives a comforting cozy feeling, whether it be a cabin in the snowy mountains or in the summer by a lake. This can be a great color to give your home a down-to-earth, yet moody and “homey” vibe.
Black and Gray
Both black and gray represent elegance and sophistication and can also create a sense of composure. These colors are associated with timelessness and mystery as they can be used in many ways and represent many things (negative or positive). Black and gray are simple yet powerful colors to style your living space and would certainly be labeled as the #1 color to create a moody vibe!
